4Magnet repairs and service. In addition to manufacturing their own range of magnets, J&R overhaul, rewind or repair any type or make of electromagnet. This work is done in our Smithfield service shop and includes the following procedures:-

uElectrical and mechanical checking of incoming magnet windings.
uDrying out using heating/vacuum cycle to improve insulation readings.
uOpening up of magnet casing either by machining or carbon arc gouging
uRemoval of filler (if any) and of magnet windings
uPartial or complete reinsulation of windings, and upgrading of the magnet lifting capacity*.
uRefitting of new or repaired coil(s)
uRewelding of the magnet case. Repair of pole shoes if required
uRefitting and welding in of non-magnetic bumping plate
uDrying out of winding and filling with epoxy or alternative filling compound (shock resistant)
uTesting and heat run (including flux test if requested)
uFinish off leads and seal terminal box. Paint.

*Both aluminium and copper conductor are used and this may be in bare strip or pre-insulated form. Choice of conductor is determined by the winding space available and the winding design which gives the most economic, technically suitable solution.

4J&R Battery Magnets. A typical J&R battery magnet (pictured), comes with its own built-in battery and does not need a separate power supply. These magnets are ideal for workshop use. This model B53 (pictured) is rated at 2000Kg lifting capacity and has a breakaway strength of 3 to 1. The magnets are controlled from a local control switch. The magnets come complete with low battery alarms and comply with Australian safety codes. Operating time between battery charges is approximately 48 hours. A special battery charger is supplied with each magnet. They are usually time-charged overnight.
