Welcome to J&R Magnetics

J&R Magnetics Australia for electromagnets and lifting magnets.

Welcome to J&R Magnetics - "Better lifting solutions"

4J&R Magnetics are Australia's leading manufacturer of electromagnets for all steel and ferrous material handling applications. Jones and Rickard Magnets are manufactured in Sydney using Australian steel and winding conductors. We supply and service a variety of different lifting systems outlined over these four pages. For more detail don't hesitate to contact us via the email address and phone numbers listed at the bottom of each page.

4Electromagnets offer the advantages of controlled holding power and on command release. Through the application of controlled AC or DC electrical current, electromagnets have the ability to attract and hold ferrous materials with varying degrees of force. Electromagnets also have the ability to release the item as required. Steel encased and filled with a high temperature potting material, our electromagnets deliver maximum performance. Electromagnets are most effective when they are used in applications having direct contact with the work (steel) surface.

4Billet and rail magnets. J&R Magnetics supply billet magnets which are usually designed to handle single layers of steel billets or rails in raft format. The magnet width and strength is selected to suit the number and size of billets required in each lift. Magnets can be designed for cold product or for 'just-rolled' steel at any temperature up to 600°C.

4Magnets for slabs and plate. Thick plates and slabs are lifted and stacked using heavy duty rectangular E-type magnets. Larger, more flexible plates usually require a number of lighter magnets arranged and sized to suit the area and dimensions of the range of plates to be handled. For shipyards and profiling shops, which have a diverse range of plate sizes and shapes, the magnets are switched and energised in various combinations to suit the plate areas to be covered. Magnets, (or pairs of magnets) may be arranged to pivot, tilt or swivel. Off center lifting (prior to magnetic clamping) enables plates to be moved from horizontal storage piles to vertical storage racks and vice versa.

and general use

16 tonne ball

4J&R Magnets for scrap and bulk products. An extra heavy duty 65" diameter magnet is used for "balling" blast-furnace slag with a 16 tonne ball. All J&R circular magnets are of robust fully welded and sealed construction with thick non-magnetic stainless or  manganese steel bumping plates suitable for steel works duty

4Construction J&R Magnetics manufacture both "normal" and "extra deep" field scrap handling magnets in all sizes from 300mm diameter (12") up to 2250mm diameter (90") All coils are encapsulated in a high temperature, shock resistant epoxy filler, under a layer of shock absorbing compound.

4Voltage boosting Magnets are also used for handling processed scrap - such as bailed press offcuts, pig iron etc, and for furnace charging. Short term voltage boosting can be incorporated into the power supply/control system if required to increase the pick-up of light and fragmented scrap.
